Zakat is calculated as 2.5% of your zakat-eligible wealth that has been in your possession for one full lunar year, provided it exceeds the nisab threshold. We use the gold standard for nisab (87.48 grams of gold), which today equals approximately BHD 1,960.
This calculator includes the most common asset categories. For business inventory, agricultural produce, or livestock, the rules differ — consult a qualified scholar.
Common questions
Do I include my retirement account (401k, IRA)?
Yes, if you can access the funds even with penalty. Use the current market value, not your contribution basis.
What about my home and car?
Personal residence and a car for personal use are exempt. Investment properties and vehicles held for resale are included at market value.
What is the current nisab in BHD?
The nisab threshold is approximately BHD 1,960 based on the gold standard (87.48 grams of gold at current prices).
Do I use the gold or silver standard for nisab?
Most scholars recommend the silver standard as it results in a lower nisab, meaning more people pay zakat. However, the gold standard is also widely accepted. This calculator uses the gold standard.
